The ABC’s of Vitamins
A Vitamin A! This anti-oxidant is essential for the body in protein synthesis. It is found in many foods like broccoli, apricots, asparagus and fish. Used externally in cosmeceuticals and cosmetics, it can help to accelerate cellular regeneration and reduce the signs of age. A deficiency in this essential vitamin can increase the potential for infections.
B There is a range of the B vitamins. They all have the potential to enhance the appearance of youthful and more vibrant skin.
- B3-Niacin is a circulatory stimulus. A deficiency can lead to skin and hair problems.
- B5-Pantothenic Acid helps to convert food into energy. It is excellent for rebalancing a stressed system and affecting the hormonal system.
- B6-Pyridoxine can affect fluid retention and can be a link to acne. Sores on the mouth and lips can occur if it is deficient.
- B8-Folic Acid contributes to the formation of oxyhemaglobin. A deficiency can lead to anemia
- B12-Cyanocobalamin aids in iron absorption and in preventing anemia. Biotin is produced in the intestines and is essential for the absorption of all the other B vitamins and is essential for healthy hair and skin. The B’s are found in dark leafy greens, eggs and brewer’s yeast.
C Arguably the most well-known of all the vitamins and studied by many, most notable by Dr. Linus Pauling, winner of the Nobel Prize. It is an antioxidant with the potential to affect all areas of our life. Stress, skin tone, texture and bodily functions are just some of the things affected by the level of vitamin C. It can be found in citrus fruits and green vegetables.
D Synthesized by a reaction of our bodies with sunlight, it helps to maintain healthy bones and teeth.
E Tocopherol helps to improve circulation and maintain a balanced blood pressure. It is used in many cosmetic formulations to hydrate and diminish skin irritations. Vitamin C is found in many food oils and dark leafy greens. The body needs zinc in order to maintain proper levels.
K is known for its benefit to the circulatory system. It can aid in reducing the appearance of spider and varicose veins. It is manufactured within the body and can be found in green foods like kelp, alfalfa sprouts and wheat grass.
